Designed specifically for high-precision MIM (Metal Injection Molding) components, the solution combines robotics, CNC machining, and advanced vision inspection—all engineered and built in-house by the SORSYS team.
Process Overview:
• A 6-axis robot initiates the process by picking MIM parts from a vibratory inline track feeder and loading them into a CNC machine.
• CNC machining reams a critical hole to remove excess MIM material.
• The robot then unloads the part and sends it through a blow-off station to eliminate coolant residue.
• A high-accuracy vision inspection system evaluates hole placement relative to two curved profile features, with a tight ±3-micron tolerance.
• A precision fixture ensures each part is presented perpendicular to the vision system for repeatable accuracy.
• A second camera inspects a 0.5 mm oil hole using a custom cylindrical backlight, detecting even the smallest blockages.
• Based on the inspection, parts are automatically sorted into good or reject bins.
• The fully automated cycle completes in just 30 seconds.
